Ethics by Design Series: Democracy, Privacy & Technology

Western democracies are under new pressures from digital technologies. Whereas before, the internet was seen as an exciting new platform to increase political engagement, encourage the participation of previously underrepresented groups, and improve innovation, now we understand that new forms of communication have created new arenas of power.
This workshop will focus on the way that technology is changing democracy and the theories of privacy.

***This is a standalone module in the Ethics by Design Series, which encourages you to think more deeply about the products we design and how they are changing our lives and what it means to be human. This class expands upon content in other workshops, but is also easily accessible to new attendees. Check out the upcoming dates for the rest of the classes in the series:
Preparation
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

1) Download Zoom, our video conferencing appZoom Desktop is the video conferencing tool we will use. It works a lot like Google Hangouts or Skype. You will need to create an account in order to join the call.
2) Sign-in to Slack and create an account. Slack is a written chat tool that your instructor may use to post photos, links, resources, polls, and threads. It also gives you and your classmates an opportunity to ask questions and collaborate!
