Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this ikebana class:

Ikebana is more than just flower arrangement! This stunning Japanese art form teaches you how to observe and manipulate flowers, leaves, and stems to bring the beauty of nature indoors. Using the Ohara curriculum of ikebana, you will build skills in the low bowl moribana tradition. The beginner friendly introductory class focuses on Hana-isho, meaning flowers for where we live and work.

Please bring the following supplies to the first class:

  • Scissors
    • Floral or Craft Scissors or pruning shears
  • Low Bowl
    • The plant materials provided are intended for a 10-11" diameter bowl of 2" depth with a flat bottom. However, for the first day, students may bring any bowl they have with a flat bottom from 6-13" diameter and 1" - 3.5" depth.
  • Flower frog pin holder
    • The ideal flower pin holder for the introduction class is a metal rectangle 3.5X2" but 3" round pinholders are also good. Any pinholder of at least 2.5" up to 5" may be used.

The original post mentioned Spanish /English the instructor barely spoke English and it was learn as you saw vs. actually learning technique and form. There was a TA or maybe someone who had experience in the class that spoke Spanish but the instructor seemed annoyed by her connection with some of us. Very disappointed.
