What you'll learn in this art history class:

Tea Ceremony Workshop: Discover art through taste, ritual and culture

Sapar Contemporary is excited to welcome you to the first edition of our Food and Art series, a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony Demonstration, performed by Marybeth Welch and Greg Succop, two Chanoyu Tea teachers from the Urasenke Chanoyu Society of New York. The Urasenke school of tea traces it's 500 year lineal history to Sen no Rikyu both in style and teachings. This lecture demonstration introduces the intricacies of tea and its origins in Japanese culture. The event will pair cha-no-yu with the works of Japanese artist Shinji Turner-Yamamoto. Mr. Succop and Ms. Welch will also offer an introduction to the essential presentation of this art form, and the beauty hat surrounds a five-century tradition. One of the highlights of the workshop is the opportunity to enjoy a seasonal tea sweet and prepare your own bowl of tea.
