What you'll learn in this figure drawing class:

This is an uninstructed session designed to allow attendees to create more completed drawings. The first forty minutes are short poses. After that, all poses are 20 minute poses with a 40-minute pose at the end.

Our room is quiet while the model is posing so sketchers can concentrate.

Those who are will may share their work during the long break in the middle of the session.

Our three-hour figure drawing session with a long pose at the end. All levels are welcome and this session is open to the public. Please bring your own drawing supplies.

Question from Anonymous
Is this class good for a beginner who has no experience sketching live model? Will someone guide you on how to sketch or you quickly follow one person who is sketching.
Answer from Nadine B. Verified Student
I am a beginner with no experience with figure drawing. I fell right in and was quite comfortable. No instruction so feel free to talk and share with others as folks seemed friendly and open. You can share your work or not but if you want feedback or tips, you can talk with others. Very friendly bunch.

Hi there! The Saturday class is not instructed, so Drawing New York recommends to have some experience. There is an instructor there should students have questions, but the room in generally silent. Hope this helps!

Question from Joel D.
Hello, I was wondering if it's okay to use charcoal to draw rather than the recommended 2H/2B pencil? I am a total beginner and wanted to start drawing with this. Thank you, Joel
Answer from ED K. Verified Student
You can use any medium you would like but oil would not work. Some do watercolor. I prefer compressed charcoal sticks.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Joel! That will be fine. A beginner might have more control with pencils rather than charcoal but it is fine if you choose to start there. Hope this helps!

Nice uninstructed class. Room hot—even model was sweating. But class leader is kind and helpful and class is run professionally. Excellent place to practice skills.

Thought it was really boring, but you get what you pay for - show up, no direction or help, draw the model.

Never did this before and it was so enjoyable. Note, no teaching goes on here, just the opportunity to try out or practice your figure drawing skills. Enjoy!

I was disappointed with this class. This was actually not a class with instructor / guidance, a group of people meet up to develop their skill. No instructions are provided, I won’t recommend this class if you are expecting to develop your skill with an instructor.
