What you'll learn in this floral design class:

Beginners Open Studio is for students who are interested in floral design and want to try working with flowers. This studio class provides the opportunity to create a beautiful, seasonal arrangement while learning some tips and tricks of design. This is a great way to introduce yourself to FlowerSchool New York and the world of floral design.

Each class has a particular design focus, such as hand-tied bouquets or low compact centerpieces, and is more casual than our other more intensive classes.

This class includes all the flowers which students take home when finished, and furnishes one spectacular arrangement.

Question from Anonymous
Hello, I would like to know if I would have the option to choose to do a compact centerpiece and not the hand-tied bouquet? My friend and I are interested in learning how to do a centerpiece.
Answer from Lauren M. Verified Student
Honestly, once the demonstration is complete and you begin to do your own arrangement, you can make it as compact as you like. The instructor basically provided instruction on one simple centerpiece arrangement and we took her instruction and designed it however we wanted. We did not put together a hand-tied bouquet. However, she is open to answering any questions beyond the arrangement we were creating.
Question from anonymous
Do they use fresh flowers?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Yes! All students will use fresh flowers form the New York Flower Market for the Open Studio Class. All designs are hand selected and curated by a FlowerSchool New York teacher using the best blooms of the season.
Question from Susan M.
How many sessions?
Answer from Jesse R. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Susan, this class is just one session usually for 1.5 hours. You can see all of the dates and times by scrolling down to the "Start Dates" section. Hope that helps!

There was no content taught. It was similar to a paint night in the sense it was follow and proceed. Of course beautiful arrangements were made but that was done without guidance for future endeavors. I’ve been working with Flowers for a little while now and I left with no new information on what creates a good arrangement or about maintenance of a good arrangement etc. I apologize for the negative feedback. The boutique used a beautiful array of flowers and I appreciate that.

I really enjoyed this class! The space and flowers were beautiful. The instructor was very informative and experienced and taught us many professional florist techniques that really helped me understand the way a flower arrangement is designed and assembled and they played nice music. The Flower School provided a profusion of beautiful blooms and greens and by the end of the class every student had a gorgeous arrangement in a elegant glass vase. They even packed up our flowers safely and beautifully for us to take home. I was the envy of the L train. I am still enjoying my bountiful bouquet and will definitely be back for another class. My only wish is that there had been a printed handout with the names of the flowers we used and some of the techniques the instructor taught us, like blowing into roses to help them open.

Good intro for learning how to make a specific flower design. Was disappointed by the cost, expected to gain more general (overview of) flower arranging basics. This class was focused exclusively on creating one specific elaborate flower design so the learning wasn't really generalizable for everyday life/ creative arranging.
