What you'll learn in this jewelry class:

Miss being in class between spring and fall terms? Sign up for these mini-sessions before the next round starts! In these shortened sessions students will be guided through the basics of creating rings, necklace pendants, bracelets, and earrings using copper, brass, or silver.

Participants will be introduced to sawing, filing, rivet-making, soldering, and polishing and setting stones, plus hammering techniques and surface treatments. Each of these processes will help new students navigate the exciting possibilities of the medium. Many tools are available in the studio for class use.

Please Note: A supply list will be reviewed in the first class.

School Notes:

Refund Policy
The school operates on a credit only policy and does not issue any refunds unless otherwise advised and approved by a program director, or only in the event that the school must cancel the program. The credit can be redeemed for any program (and most services) at the school, can be used by any family member on your account, and carries no expiration date.

For a cooking class, a student needs to cancel 72 hrs before the class starts in order to receive a full credit.

For Studio Arts Classes, a student needs to cancel 48 hrs before the class starts in order to receive a full credit.

For programs that meet fewer than 3 times: during the costs and booking commitments associated with one or two-shoot programs, the school regrets that they cannot offer any school's credit for programs, classes, or events that meet fewer than three times per programming season. Additionally, the school cannot be responsible for providing make-ups or issuing any credit for programs missed as a result of personal scheduling conflicts, illness, emergencies, or other circumstances beyond their control.

For programs that meet 3+ times: students may receive school's credit for withdrawal from a program when their cancellation request conforms to the timetable outlined below. There is a $15 processing fee for all transfers and cancellations. 50% school credit will be granted for withdrawal from a school program when a written request is received before the second class. After the second class, JCC credit cannot be granted. (however, students may transfer from one class to another of equal or lesser value if there is space availability and with the program director's approval.) All cancellation request must be submitted to CourseHorse at [email protected] Please allow three to four weeks for processing of your cancellation request and be mindful of the timetable described above.

If there are other sections to make up classes in, it should be okay, as long as it's not the first class.

Question from Apu
Would we be finishing multiple pieces with techniques learned by the end of this course? Also, are the supplies provided? What’s the cost of the supplies if we need to buy them? Thank you in advance for more information.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hello there! The mini-session is really just a taste of metals, so it's possible students would finish one or two projects depending on what they are and if the student has any background experience, but definitely, students should take a full session to really learn more. They provide some equipment and tools, but students will need to buy some of their own hand tools, metal, solder, etc and it may be an additional $50ish.
Question from Ebru A.
I am interested in this course but would miss the last two classes. Is it possible to make up 2 classes? Thanks for the help! Ebru
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Ebru! As per the Makeup Policy of Art Studios @ JCC Manhattan, if there are other sections to make up classes in, it should be okay, as long as it's not the first class. Hope this helps!
