Influences on Design
In this course you will learn about the influences, political, social, economic and cultural, that affected jewelry design and manufacturing, what jewelry was bought in a given era and why and how it was worn then and now.
Together we will examine the affect of influence, the philosophy of jewelry design – the impact of its meaning and its role as adornment. This will include a look at where we have been historically, how we got there and where we might be headed. Additionally, we will explore what affects personal style and the potential longevity of an individual designer’s creations.
IN THIS CLASS YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO:
- Evaluate the spirit of the times – the interrelationships between the political, economic, cultural and social influences of a given period and their impacts on design
- Explore – how jewelry design has been affected by historical milestones: from advertising campaigns and manufacturing advances to pop culture and Hollywood
- Define – what distinguishes jewelry from other decorative arts
- Assess – how to evaluate your own design inspiration and strategically position it relative to current and projected directions and trends
- Determine – how to identify your own style and translate your design distinction into effective, sustainable brand recognition
You don’t have to be a designer to benefit from this course. A keen interest in jewelry, history, or fashion is enough.
