What you'll learn in this metal working class:

This workshop that takes place over the course of four 3-hour sessions will teach you how to use and understand the components of the MIG welding machine. You will learn how to weld steel and aluminum, how to cut metal on the horizontal and vertical bandsaws, and get an overview of the metal fabrication shop and the variety of metalworking tools in it.

Metal Inert Gas(MIG) welding is the process of using electricity and argon gas to weld two pieces of metal together. It is the simplest and easiest form of welding, making it accessible for the average person to learn.

By the end of this course, you will have enough knowledge to use the MIG machines as a makerspace member safely and independently.

Note: Session price includes materials. No prior metalworking experience required. Please wear hair tied back, closed toe boots, jeans, and long-sleeved shirts.

I had a slight reservation signing up for this class thinking I might be out of place, but I couldn’t of been more wrong. Scott is a great instructor, very personable and made all students feel comfortable and welcome. Great introduction and background to welding with a great phased in approach to learning to do it. There is plenty of time for each student to physically weld, not just discuss the how to’s. Can’t wait to take other classes as this was quite enjoyable.
