In 1858, Frederick Law Olmsted won a design competition to improve and expand the park with a plan they entitled the Greensward Plan. Since then, continuing through today, Central Park has an international allure that brings locals and far-away travelers to this urban center delight. In fact, there are a number of photographers who have devoted their lives to capturing the beauty, the charm, and whimsy of this destination. Digital Photo Academy is inviting you to see for yourself.
The rendezvous point will be at 79th and Central Park West, directly across the street from the entrance to the Museum of Natural History. The first stop will be Belvedere Castle, constructed in 1869 as a watch tower over the city and still remaining in pristine condition. The castle is ideal to bone up on architectural and perspective photography and also offers panoramic views of the park from a number of look out points.
We’ll also stop by Shakespeare’s Garden for lessons in macro photography, aiming our lenses at a variety of colorful flora and fauna. Additionally, you will learn the panning technique which is used to suggest fast motion, and bring out the subject from other elements in the frame. There’s a huge selection of content to draw from, including the Great Lawn, the Swedish Theater, and a myriad of portrait options. Think of the musicians, the street performers, the dog walkers, tourists and local artists that you’ll encounter. During this 3-hour excursion, you’ll see the park in a new way and make new friends who share your interest in photography.
Each Composition in the Field class begins with a talk with one of our experienced instructors, and then you and your fellow students take a stroll through one of a variety of photogenic locales (in any of the 20+ cities the DPA encapsulates). There is street photography, magnificent interiors, farmers markets, zoos, landscapes, and more, photos of which are included within. These photos are a mix of student and instructor images in many different venues and cities across the United States and Canada.
You will have fun in the three-hour session, learn to shoot strategically, get more interesting photos of the event, and walk away with a foundation to improve your photographs in the future, whether you’re traveling, or at a birthday party and everywhere in between.
Please note – if a class must be canceled due to weather or other circumstances beyond our control we will be happy to work with you to reschedule. If you should need to cancel and require a new class date, contact us. A $25 transfer fee will be imposed without a 3-day notice before the scheduled class.
