Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this sculpture class:

This class is not for people who make molds; this is a class for people who want to know how to make molds. Our Resin-Rubber Overview is geared toward new-comers to mold making who want to know about the materials available and the basics of how to use them. This class is designed for the beginner mold maker.

An important step in successful mold making is being familiar with mold making materials available to you. The more you know about the materials and their characteristics, more likely the better your mold will be. Another important step is knowing the various types of molds that can be made and when to use them.

This class is devoted to discussion demystifying various mold making materials such as polyurethane, polysulfide and silicone, each has their own properties, inhibitions & characteristics; as well as advantages and disadvantages. Other topics that will be covered include mold types; for example: what is a box mold, a multi-part mold, what is and why a mother mold is needed and mold storage.

  • Resin Rubber Overview: Mold Making

    Anonymous review on 3/15/2019
This class was supposed to be taught by Sarah who has rave reviews on this site. The teacher was changed last minute to the owner of the space who is really knowledgeable about his products but wasn't exactly the most natural educator. It was really obvious that half the class had difficulty following what he was saying and left no more inspired to make mold necessarily. Felt a little bit more like long lecture advertising materials to buy rather than teaching how to even begin thinking about mold making.

Our instructor Sarah knew so much about mold making it blows my mind. She was also very open and organized. As a beginner to moldmaking my learning curve was very high, I had so much to know. But Sarah had many examples and spoke in a way that while over my head at times made me curious and I knew there was much to know and a place I could learn from at the compleat sculptor. Much of today the day after the class I found myself comprehending more and more about what we learned. I thought the class was fantastic but it's just the beginning. I was also able to get started on my project that I went there curious to learn about
