In this live, virtual cheese tasting experience, a professional cheesemonger will help you navigate the world of artisan cheese. You'll get the chance to taste several different types of cheese as well as learn how to store, pair, and serve it. Your tasting palette features a young goat's milk gouda, creamy St. Stephen and a clothbound Vermont cheddar. All will be shipped to you!
As an attendee, you will receive an email with a Zoom link to join our live class. Simultaneously we will be working to swiftly and safely transport your fromage to the address you provide so you can taste alongside your instructor for the session. This is a live, interactive event where you can ask questions along the way. We keep classes small so that you can get as much out of the experience as possible.
A single ticket includes 3 different 1/2lb cheeses, enough for the entire family to enjoy and participate in the cheese tasting. Once it has shipped, refunds are not permitted. Class registration ends 7 days before the scheduled class date to ensure delivery.
The only additional items you will need the day of your event would be a cutting board and knife so you can portion out your cheeses. Tracking information will be available 2 business days after you book your spot in the event.
About the Instructor
I’m Julia Birnbaum and I’ve been in the Cheese Industry since 2014. I’ve worked in cheese education, marketing, social media and more. Most recently I filled in as head buyer and manager for one of the largest cheese counters on the East Coast. Along the way I've been lucky enough to visit farms, meet artisan cheese producers and train under some of the best cheesemongers in the field. For me, cheese is a magical food which connects flavor to tradition and science and so much more. My favorite thing about cheese is its ability to tell a story and bring people together. My goal here is to educate cheese lovers from near and far on this endlessly fascinating and delicious topic which I’ve dedicated my career to.
What will be included in my Virtual Class package?
One ticket will include a shipment of 3 cheeses at a 1/2 lb each, enough to save for later or share with up to 4 other people in your household. You will also have access to a 60-minute live, interactive workshop with a professional cheese monger who will guide you through the palette and help you experience cheese on all sensory fronts.
What if my cheeses don’t arrive in time for the class or I have other delivery issues?
We will be shipping cheeses via FedEx and will therefore have reliable tracking information. In the circumstance you don't receive your cheeses in time for the class you signed up, you may switch into next week's class at no additional charge. We offer these classes regularly!
What will be included in my Virtual Class package?
One ticket includes an access link to your live, online class. The class will be delivered via web conferencing software and feature a live, professional instructor who will walk you through a lesson as described above. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as participate from home.
How many people is my purchase good for?
Each ticket is good for one household and device (i.e. one computer, phone, tablet, etc. you'll be logging in from). This ensures we don't get more people in the class than the instructor can handle. Though we understand some people live together and will be working/learning together, the intent is that each class still allows for the same attention to attendees as if students purchased separately. Please be respectful of this!
Will I need anything from home to use in the class?
You will need a reliable Internet connection as well as a computer or device with which you can access your virtual class. We recommend you arrive to class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device and connection. Additionally, if the class is more than just a lecture you will likely want any materials listed in the course description as "Materials Needed to Participate Fully", though you're welcome to purchase a seat and sit in and just watch.
Am I able to ask questions or interact with the class?
Yes, you'll both be able to ask questions using the chat function in the video hosting software as well as at certain intervals during the class via voice/audio. If the class winds up being on the smaller side, more spontaneous interaction/questions will be encouraged.
Do I have to show my video or speak during class?
While we recommend you do show your video and speak when encouraged to by the instructor, video and audio participation are never mandatory. We find classes have more fun experiences when people are engaging with one another, but understand not everyone will want to do so and that's ok!
