Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this indian cooking class:

You will be taught everything you need to know about spices (masalas), which is the basis of Indian cooking that will come handy when we begin to cook. Spices bring out the flavor in each dish; therefore, I always like my students to learn and become spice experts. I will teach you the nuances and secrets, where to get the masalas, and how to keep the aroma intact.

After the class I will send you the electronic version of the recipes to your email, so that It will be with you forever. This class is going to be very hands-on, but I will be with you all the time and giving you instructions. We cook from scratch using the best, healthy ingredients, spices and produce. We mingle, share our cooking experiences, eat together at the end of the class, and have lots of fun.
After we will make all the dishes, we will have a sit-down dinner. You will get friendship, fun and exquisite food a complete dinner like a king.
Come join us! Let us know your special needs, if any.

Summary:

To start off this class, we will be making pakora, a fried snack that is very common in India. Pakoras can be made using one or two ingredient like onions, eggplants, etc. We will be making pakoras with onions, the onions are chopped into thin slices and mixed with a fry batter. It is usually served with green chutney and is very popular as a street snack. Saag paneer is a classic Indian dish that brings a sigh of delight to every table. This beautiful green dish is made with spinach and paneer which is Indian cottage cheese. Paneer is always homemade in my kitchen, so you will be learning how to make cheese. The paneer is broken into small bits and mixed in with the spinach. This dish offers a creamy texture from the cheese and is very healthy for you. Aloo gobi is a popular, dry dish made with aloo which is potatoes and gobi which is cauliflower. It is stir fried with many spices like panch phoron, asafetida and turmeric and salt. These turmeric gives the dishes a lovely yellow color.

Butter chicken is one of the most known dishes in India, it has become so popular that it is a favorite at home and common in most restaurants. Butter chicken is usually made with ghee, spices, and cream; these ingredients gives the dish a rich texture and is often served with either bread or rice. Aloo paratha is fried potato bread that is often served with other savory dishes. Paratha is a flatbread that originated in the India subcontinent. The bread dough is stuffed with mashed potatoes and then rolled out flat and is very simple to make.

Menu:

  • Pakora–Onion Fritters
  • Saag paneer(Spinach in Indian cheese infused with aromatic spices)
  • Aloo Gobi and matar (Cauliflower, potato and peas curry)
  • Chicken Makhni (Butter chicken)
  • Aloo Paratha (Potato stuffed Indian flat bread)
