We loved the cozy environment and the food came out delicious. However, It was a little less hands on then cooking classes we’ve taken previously. We also were a little surprised that the class allowed kids under 16.

What a memorable experience this was! Cooking technique and menu aside, this experience was a lovely post-pandemic social activity for my partner and me; small scale, intimate, inexplicably clean, and interactive. Not only did we learn the proper hold of a knife, but also how to slice an onion with the stem still attached in order to keep the portions uniform, stable, and in order, but also the proportion of anchovy brine to blend into our salad dressing to taste. As a couple who love to eat, as well as learn together, this was a special experience, and one we got to share in the presence of others. We’re grateful for the opportunity to have learned, participated, and shared a table with everyone involved. Would highly recommend it to any lover of learning, food, culture, and good company. Many thanks, Katrina & Josh.

I really loved the class, evthg. from the quaint, homey set-up to the technique of cooking. Ivan was a great instructor and explained each step of the cooking procedures. We made vichyssoise, coq au vin, and creme brûlée. We also had a great and very social group, so that made for an even more enjoyable cooking experience.

In this class all we did was cut the vegetables. We did not cook the meat. We did not get alerted how long the meat should cook. How long the soup should cook. And not how the creme brûlée has been sugared and torched. We pretty much paid 140$ for a byob class where we cut 1 onion, 1 potato, 1 piece of celery and 1 tiny carrot. They promised to send the recipe but have not. Highly disappointed. My mother and father can’t believe how much I spent on their gift.

I brought my girlfriend for her birthday and we had a lovely class. It was a little basic, but I asked plenty of questions and that helped to flesh out the details. My one critique is that the instructors were not clear enough that if you chose a side you wouldn't get to learn the other side. The sad part for me was I took my girlfriend to this class in particular because she was interested in learning about how to make the pastry, but because of the confusion we didn't learn how to make the pastry at all.

Class was so awesome! The food is delicious! Wish there was a way to see/participate in both the appetizers and the mains being cooked and prepped, but I understand thats impossible when you have 4 courses to prepare at the same exact time! But you can float around when it is not your turn to help with the section you chose so you dont miss everything! The atmosphere is fantastic, and ivan was a great teacher. Cant wait to take the pasta course!

Excellent time. My only critique was I wish the experience was organized so people would have had equal experience between the main course and the appetizer. If you went to one, you missed the other completely.

Ivan was a great chef and host with this cooking class. I chose this class specifically to learn French cooking because the techniques seem a bit challenging prior to this class however Ivan made it so easy! I learned how to make cheese and chive gougeres using the pate a choux dough method, French onion soup, beef bourguignon and decadent chocolate soufflé. These are dishes that every French restaurant serves but now that I’ve learned how to make it and its so simple, who needs to shell out $$$ for eating out at a French cuisine? I learned many knife skills, the types of cuts, and also classic French techniques. The class was in a very nice and quaint building right on Macdougal street and the students that I took this class with all had a blast. I would do this again for sure!

Question from Denise G.
Is there a cream alternative for the vichyssoise? I am lactose intolerant.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Denise! They usually serve a different option for clients with dietary restrictions at mealtime, however, this specific class has some kind of dairy in every course and it wouldn’t make much sense to learn how to make something that you won’t be able to eat and enjoy. There are other menus much better suitable for this particular restriction.

Question from Drew
Does each student get to prepare all four courses?
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Drew! If the class is smaller than 10 people, then there will be one Chef and everybody will be involved with each and every dish. That said, each student won’t be preparing his or her individual meal, but rather be involved in a team effort to “construct” the dish. Hope this helps!
