Ancient Chateau Latour Dinner

As one of the oldest wine producers in Bordeaux, Chateau Latour took its name from the now destroyed Tower of Saint-Maubert, built in 1331 to guard the Gironde Estuary through the Hundred Years War. 

From 1695 to 1755, Latour and Lafite shared ownership by the Ségur family, through the 1855 classification of the Médoc. At the heart of Latour’s terroir is the 47-hectare parcel referred to as “L’Enclos.” Atop a 16-meter croupe of gravel, l’Enclos is considered by many to be the finest vineyard in Bordeaux and the epitome of Pauillac— close enough to the river to provide the ideal microclimate.

The wines of Chateau Latour are incredibly long-lived and full of strength; arguably the greatest and most age worthy of all the First Growths. With age, the powerful tannins blend seamlessly into the wines and the wines begin to approach their peak only after at least thirty years of bottle age. It is a special occasion to have this ancient vertical of Chateau Latour back to 1908.
