The phone number on Mulberry Street is 212-966-9383. There is also an intercom right next to the elevator door if you need to reach us directly from the street. The elevator is open during events, so you do not need to use the intercom to access it. Join Mama Kechi by Michelle Chinedum Utah and Lookman Afolayan Mashood of BUKA NYC for the launch of our first African cooking class series that highlights some of Nigeria’s finest and traditional dishes. African cuisine has been a hidden gem that is now making its grand entrance. African cuisine offers a variety of nutrients from natural, wholesome, and unprocessed ingredients. Though, African cuisine typically comprises of a high starch content, such starches are in the least processed forms foods such as cassava, millet, barley, sorghum, and plantain, and corn. These starches provide fiber which has been proven by African ancestors to improve cholesterol levels, weight control, provide energy, and prevent constipation and other food-related GI issues.

African foods are delicious and use native African vegetables that are long known superfoods. Wild African fruits and vegetables contain potent anti-oxidant qualities that protect our bodies from damage caused by harmful free-radicals.

Our series will highlight some of Africa’s finest dishes, and also teach some African and Western fusion dishes. The class will teach those interested in exploring African cuisine and culture. Enjoy an evening of African music, culture, learning, and fun! Our class will provide a hands-on cooking experience and a three-course meal.
