Laughter yoga (Hasyayoga) is a unique concept in which anyone can laugh without jokes, comedy or humor. In Laughter yoga, the laughter starts as exercise. Done in groups, with eye contact and childlike playfulness, the laughter becomes infectious and contagious. What starts as intentional or fake laughter becomes real. It is called laughter yoga because it combines pranyama or yogic breathing with laughter exercises. Laughter yoga is based on the scientific fact that intentional laughter provides the same benefits as spontaneous laughter.
Laughter yoga provides emotional, social and physical benefits. In our stressful lives, laughter yoga elevates mood and reduces stress. It strengthens the immune system. Endorphins and oxytocin, the love hormone are secreted. Laughter yoga is a powerful cardio workout. 10 minutes of hearty laughter is equal to 30 minutes on the rowing machine. It increases blood circulation and relaxes the muscles. (
