Raízes do Brasil Capoeira Brooklyn was founded in 2006 by the husband and wife team Mestre Foca and Instrutora Rouxinol with the intention of bringing Brazilian culture to the community via Capoeira, Maculelê, Samba and Portuguese. From 2006 until 2011, they taught and performed capoeira throughout Brooklyn, including public & private schools, Prospect Park, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn College and the West Indian Carnival Parade. They organized and produced six annual international Capoeira Encounters which included performances, jogos, music festivals and batizados.
Today, Capoeira Brooklyn is lead by Instrutor Curu.
