Marybeth Welch & Greg Succop

Teaches at Sapar Contemporary

Marybeth Welch has been studying the Tea Ceremony for more than three decades and when she received her chamei, “Sõchi.” She has given many lectures and demonstrations on Tea in New York including commentary for tea demonstrations at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the annual UN spring tea gathering. In addition to tea, Ms. Welch is an expert in the techniques of making wagashi sweets.

Greg Succop has been a tea student in the Urasenke tradition of chanoyu for over two decades. After receiving his chamei, "Soken," he began teaching both introductory classes as well as intermediate level students. Many roads lead to "tea." For Greg, his on-going study of traditional Japanese building methods as well as his life long love of poetry informs his interest and understanding of tea. He frequently participates in demonstrations of chanoyu at schools and universities.
