Claudia Sohrens

Claudia Sohrens is an artist from Hamburg, Germany. Her work expands the notion of the artist as activist, researcher, archivist, producer and circulator, and adheres to the principles of cultural activism. Employing mediums such as the book, the archive, video, and photography, she explore the fetish of the archival object and archival consciousness. Concerns active in her work are authorship and orginality, image accumulation and circulation, translation and migration of images, and the construction of individual and collective identities and memories. Fellowhips awarded to Sohrens include the 2010 NYFA fellowhip for Photography and the 2014-15 A.I.R. Fellowship, and she has exhibited across New York and internationally. She is currently faculty at the International Center for Photography and Pratt Institute.
