Justine Williams

Teaches at Abrons Arts Center

Justine Williams is an interdisciplinary artist/performer and educator, Justine creates works of art, performance and social action that aim to bring bodies and beings together to engage with one another, to meaningfully consider the shared spaces and contexts in which we find ourselves, and to imagine and practice new ways for bodies to be together in the world. Projects include: There’s Nothing to See Here, a civic performance project that engages participants in visioning and building together; Metaverses, an intergenerational augmented reality tour created in-residence for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Media Lab; and, The David Lunch Movie Truck, a cinema-cum-movie theater housed in a box truck (Lost Horizon Night Market). Justine has trained extensively in Viewpoints with Anne Bogart/SITI Company and in clown, bouffon, le jeu, games and physical theater with Philippe Gaulier, Pierre Byland, Christopher Bayes, Jane Nichols, Aitor Basauri and other master teachers, and she completed an apprenticeship with the Center for Theatre of the Oppressed in Rio, where she worked closely with the Marias of Brazil, a group of domestic workers who blend arts and activism to advocate for their rights through performance. She holds an MA in International Affairs with a focus in Media and Culture from the New School, an MFA in Performance and Interactive Media Arts from Brooklyn College, and she is currently a faculty member at the Yale School of Drama and Movement Theatre Studio in NYC.
