Dr. Thommeret holds graduate degrees in literature and French as a Foreign Language from the Sorbonne, as well as a PhD from the University of California. He has nearly three decades of teaching experience at the collegiate level, internationally (Qatar U. & Sorbonne) and domestically (UC Berkeley, UC Davis).
A specialist of early modern French literature and civilization, he pursues an active academic career, with numerous publications on the 18th century which have been widely regarded as groundbreaking work on forgotten literature of the Enlightenment. He also has translations of books and articles on subjects ranging from French colonization to French fascism. At the FIAF, which he joined in 2012, he teaches adult courses in French language, grammar and literature.
