Matthew Eskuche

Teaches at UrbanGlass

Matthew Eskuche became interested in craft through ceramics and metalsmithing in high school, and has an associate degree in the later from the Worcester Center for Crafts in Worcester Massachusetts.

After practicing as a bench jeweler for several years, he began flameworking in 1998. A year later he studied with Emilio Santini for two months at Penland and has continued his studies through courses, mentorship, and the camaraderie of many makers throughout the glass community.

He exhibits his work internationally, mounting a solo exhibition in Toronto in 2009 and putting together a large installation at the Racine Art Museum for one years duration in 2010-2011. He has demonstrated multiple times at the International Flameworking Conference and the Glass Art Society Conference, and since 2005 he has traveled to Australia, Japan, Turkiye, and Bulgaria to demonstrate and teach.

Images of his work have been published in several magazines, and his work is featured in the permanent collections of The Lampwork glass Museum in Kobe, Japan, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and the Racine Art Museum in Wisconsin.

He has assisted, taught courses, and done residencies in flameworking at many facilities including Corning, Penland, Pilchuck, the Pittsburgh Glass Center, the Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
