Drawing and Sketching for Beginners

Whether you’re a complete beginner or  want to improve your drawing skills or just wondering what to do when bored, this creative and engaging online drawing class is perfect. Sketch your way to amazing line art in no time!

Beginners and beyond will all be able to jump into this fun virtual experience on how to draw plants around you all from the comfort of your own home. Drawing flowers is one of my all-time favorite subjects. It doesn’t matter what type of flower it is, or whether I create them in color or black and white, it just makes me happy and I want to share that passion with you! 

What makes a good floral drawing? Composition ( how the subject is placed on the page) and contrast. These are essential for creating depth and realism, even with a simple pencil and black pen.

In this workshop I'll show you how to use pencils and Micron pens to plan, sketch, shade, and finish beautiful flowers and leaves. You will learn different techniques such as shading, stippling, hatching and cross-hatching and  in the end, you'll actually end up with a fully rendered drawing of several species

Materials needed:

• A small sketchbook. I like this one.
• Regular school pencil and sharpener
• Eraser
• Small ruler
• Micron Pens fineliners in black. This is an example with a good variety of sizes.

Hi, I’m Jade and I’m an artist, calligrapher, and educator. It is my deepest belief that we can be happier and more fulfilled when expressing ourselves creatively and I'm intensely passionate about teaching and making art accessible to all. My desire is to share my creative journey: to teach, uplift, and encourage everyone to live their best creative lives. My motto in life is "Make art, feel happy!"

Virtual Class FAQ

What will be included in my Virtual Class package?

One ticket includes an access link to your live, online class. The class will be delivered via web conferencing software and feature a live, professional instructor who will walk you through a lesson as described above. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as participate from home.

Will I need anything from home to use in the class?

You will need a reliable Internet connection as well as a computer or device (mobile works!) with which you can access your virtual class. We recommend you arrive to class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device and connection. Additionally, if the class is more than just a lecture you will likely want any materials listed in the course description as "Materials Needed to Participate Fully", though you're welcome to purchase a seat and sit in and just watch.

Am I able to ask questions or interact with the class?

Yes, you'll both be able to ask questions using the chat function in the video hosting software as well as at certain intervals during the class via voice/audio. If the class winds up being on the smaller side, more spontaneous interaction/questions will be encouraged.
