What you'll learn in this real estate course:

Gain detailed knowledge needed for valuation, the main competencies of valuation practice, through to application of that knowledge. Learn best practice in inspection and measurement and ensure any valuation report meets RICS international valuation standards.

As someone looking to begin a career in valuation, it is essential that you demonstrate comprehension of the correct methods to use for performance analysis, financing decision, development advice or transactional decisions. Specifically, this means knowing when, how and why to use the various valuation methods available.

Our course will enable you to assess the property market and be in a position to recognize which situations require which types of valuation, choose and apply the right methodology and create the valuation report in line with RICS best practice and international standards. You will also learn how to work with your clients.

Overall, we will furnish you with the skills to be able to begin work on valuation projects and demonstrate your ability to critically analyze valuations, identify red flags, and allow you to exercise your professional judgment. Gain detailed knowledge on the fundamentals of valuation practice and take the first steps towards working as a valuer of property or other asset classes.

The course is composed of 6 technical modules which will cover the core valuation competencies of inspection, measurement and valuation methodologies and report writing.

  • Module 2: Comparable method and the market
  • Module 3: Investment method and two techniques
  • Module 4: Residual method traditional
  • Module 5: DRC and profits methods overview
  • Module 6: Valuation Standards and the client
  • Module 7: Course Review and Summary

Learning resources format

E-learning
Within each module will be dedicated e-learning sessions. Within these courses delegates will gain an understanding around the practical techniques and international standards required within the construction and quantity surveying pathway.

Reading material
Learners will further study and understanding of the methodologies with the directed reading material. Sourced from textbooks and articles, these readings support development throughout the course program.

Case study
Technical case studies provide examples of practice, within these case studies participants will practice the theory taught within the module. Responses will be shared within the online forums.

Discussion forum
Questions, comments, case studies will be posted to the forum (one module) with the objective of allowing the participants to reflect on the e-learning and also to discuss their own experiences under each module heading around QS practice.

End of module quiz
At the end of each module is a short quiz, to check understanding of the content and to help track progress.

Live web classes
On completion of all the technical modules, participants will be required to attend one 1.5 hour live online web class. The structure of this session is to provide a detail overview of the practices and principles of QS. Provide participants with an open live forum to discuss their own interpretations and understanding of the learning outcomes of the course.

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Delegates are offered a refund if they cancel with up to 14 days working days from the course taking place. A working day is any day other than weekends and public holidays. Refunds will be made within 14 days of us (RICS) receiving notification that they wish to cancel.
