Sarah Tolar was born into a musical family in Colorado with professional singers as parents and began performing at a young age with her family. Although her early influences were folk and country music, Sarah eventually went on to earn a Masters of Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas. During that time, Sarah was awarded the Downbeat Award for best college female jazz singer and enjoyed performing throughout the Dallas/Ft. Worth area with her jazz quartet. Her passion for songwriting would lead Sarah from Texas to New York City to pursue her career as an original artist.

Since that time, Sarah has performed with her band for audiences throughout the United States in New York, Texas, Florida, California and beyond in China and London, and recently to open for five-time Grammy winner Christopher Cross in Washington, DC. Sarah also sings and tours internationally with the electrofunk duo Chromeo, performing at such venues as the Hollywood Bowl and on The Tonight Show with David Letterman. Sarah officially released her debut album, Big Blue Moon in 2009. Big Blue Moon has sold hundreds of copies and can be heard on jazz and adult contemporary radio stations in the US, France and the UK.

Sarah has been teaching private voice since 2001. Her students range from beginning voice students who are first learning about singing to professional vocalists who are refining their technique. While at the University of North Texas, Sarah was the interim director of the prestigious Jazz Singers I, the instructor for the beginning jazz vocal techniques class and was on the faculty of private instructors at the jazz summer workshop.
