What you'll learn in this more art class:

This is a fast paced, intense course for students who have a basic understanding and experience with the color wheel and the three properties of color——HUE, SATURATION AND VALUE.  

You will learn:

  • How to use color more effectively to capture the attention and hold the attention of the viewer.
  • Go deeper into the use of neutrals and color limitations to make bolder images
  • Use the potent language of emotions to communicate expressively
  • Learn the importance of value
  • Learn how to create focus and depth through color
  • Learn how other artists take color to great heights
  • Slide shows on topics discussed
  • Place to share artwork with fellow participants
  • Continue to build good habits of color exploration in the studio
  • Develop and paint with your own personal palette
  • One-on-one as well as group support
  • Recorded sessions for replay
  • Recorded sessions and participants work available for 6 months following course

Prerequisite

Please have experience doing the following:  

  • color mixing
  • painting and composing images with primary, monochromatic color, neutrals, complimentary colors, analogous colors and warm/cool colors

COLOR LEVEL II starts where COLOR BASICS  LEVEL I leaves off.  This is a wonderful course to repeat.  

Required Materials:

  • 9” x 12” or 11” x 14” multimedia workbook
  • Paints: warm and cool of each of the three primary colors, black and white and other colors that you wish and like
  • Tools
    • Palette knife
    • Shapers
    • Scrapers
  • Brushes - range of sizes and types
  • Chip brushes 1”, 1 ½”, 2”
  • Graphite, charcoal, eraser (optional)
  • Tablet of 18” x 24” mixed media paper
  • 10 Sheets of 15” x 22” 140 lb heavyweight mixed media paper
  • Sponge, spray bottle
  • Rag and paper towels
  • Water bucket
  • Palette paper
  • Blue tape
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Ruler

Please Note: Paper and paints and basic studio supplies are provided for a fee of $35

The school will send out a map, materials list and welcome email approximately 10 days to 1 week before start of the class.


Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
