Dive deep into our planet’s wildlife as we examine its many different critters. Each day we will explore a different class of animal, from awesome amphibians to magnificent mammals to radiant reptiles. Campers will uncover the wonders of flight by examining a bird’s wing, see how fish are able to retain oxygen using their gills, and learn about the life cycles of other animals and how they form a part of a larger kingdom of captivating critters! Leap into the world of wildlife with Critter Kingdom!

21st Century & SEL Skill Focus: Responsibility, Empathy, Collaboration, Initiative, Problem Solving, Emotion Management.

Fun Fact. In 2018, there was a 30% increase in Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills developed for those who attended two weeks of Camp EDMO™ and a 39% increase for returning EDMO™ families over new families!

Sample Project

Majestic Mammals
Campers will look at the different coverings of mammals and create their own furry covering for a mammal of their choosing! As they create, campers will make sure to leave their mammal protected from the environment as they cover them with fuzzy, furry hair.

Campers will learn about the different coverings that mammals have that help them survive, mainly hair or modified hair. Campers will discover that depending on their environment, mammals can have hair, fur or blubber to help them stay warm and survive!

Breathe Like A Fish
Campers will model the way that fish receive oxygen from their environment! They will use a coffee filter to demonstrate how a gill captures the oxygen fish need to live and then distributes it to the rest of the body.

Campers will learn how a fish breathes, as they gain an understanding of how fish are designed to live underwater by having gills that distribute oxygen to the rest of their bodies!

Campers will study their camp environment and design a reptile to hide in their immediate surroundings. It will be up to the group to find their campmates’ camouflaged creatures!

Campers will learn about camouflage and how reptiles have evolved to use it to fade into the background and protect themselves from predators.
