Description

Korean Center, Inc. (KCI), founded in 1974, is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the community by providing informational, educational, and social services to underserved immigrant and other communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.

History
The history of Korean Center, Inc. reflects the growth of the San Francisco Bay Area’s Korean community. As the local Korean community began to emerge, the Multi-Service Center for Koreans (MSCK) was founded in 1974 as a non-profit, community-based organization to manage the myriad needs of newly arriving Korean immigrants.

In 1984, after three years of persistence and hard work, the Multi-Service Center for Koreans obtained a new, permanent home on Post Street. The agency was renamed Korean Center, Inc. and provided services to all age groups and a diverse population including Russian refugees, Southeast Asians, and African-Americans.

In 1995, KCI established the Intercultural Institute of California (IIC), which offers Master of Arts degrees in Professional Application of Korean Studies (PAKS) and Teaching Korean as a Foreign Language (TKFL), and certificate programs in Korean Language and English as a Second Language.  Currently, IIC offers ESL and Business English courses to students from around the world.
