James Pratt has been managing teams and training managers for 20 years. James has built teams around the world and on behalf of tech companies big and small, including giants like Microsoft and HTC. James’ experience has taught him one important lesson. Great management and team work is more important than great strategy, good ideas, smart people and lots of money.
As we enter an age of a purpose driven workforce, managers must adapt to connect authentically with their teams. Current the VP of People Operations at Seattle startup Socrata, James brings his expertise with fast moving, distributed, multi-function and multi-cultural teams to companies looking to develop managers as a strategic asset. Most passionate when working 1:1 with managers who are hungry to grow and lead, James helps managers lean on their strengths, manage from their authentic selves and connect with and motivate their teams.

An excellent intro to people management for new or inspiring managers, or a great refresher for someone who has managed people for almost a decade. The concepts, content and course structure were approachable for all. The courses' greatest strength is it's instructor, James. James demonstrates years of experience managing people, yet you never feel like you're listening to a "know it all". He effortlessly weaves personal stories and proven methods together in a lax environment that mirrors the best (usually far more expensive) trainings I've attended.
