Sunny was born in South Korea, where her family owned several textile factories. Her introduction to cooking came from watching her mother and sisters cook for the employees who boarded with her family. Sunny married a Methodist minister and moved to the U.S. with him and their two sons in 1983. After living in many places around the country, including Kentucky, Maryland, and West Virginia, they now live in Bayside, Queens where she is the Executive Director (and founder) of the Korean American Community Center of New York. In addition to cooking, Sunny loves listening to music. She and her husband are also avid gardeners.
