Kat Martinez

Teaches at Capital Quilts

Kat loves patterns with a bold, graphic feel, and gravitates towards more "modern" fabrics. She has historically machine pieced and hand quilted, but is starting to branch out a bit. Recently, she's become a little obsessed by English Paper Piecing, hexies in particular, and loves to get others hooked -- um -- share her passion. On the other end of the spectrum, she's also starting playing with improvisational piecing.  She loves helping customers with fabric selections. 

Growing up, she never would have guessed she'd be working at a quilt shop. She didn't sew, and even used Stitch Witchery to hem pants. She did not pick up quilting until the early 1990s. She's been part-time at Capital Quilts since October 2005 (or 2006, or perhaps 2004 -- she can't remember which), and in September of 2012, came on full-time after corporate America laid her off twice in just over a year. She's now thrilled to be working for a small local retailer, and supporting the local community. A dedicated pet person, Kat also volunteers with Friends of Montgomery County Animals.
