Vanessa Carmichael

Teaches at Joy of Motion Dance Center

Vanessa Carmichael has been teaching jazz, hip hop, and modern in the DMV area for the past decade. She began dancing in college while majoring in kinesiology at the University of Maryland. She has studied ballet, jazz, and modern with Alvin Mayes, Bonnie Slawson, Tim Roberts, and Douglas Yeuell. Vanessa is a certified Personal Trainer and integrates her knowledge of exercise physiology and body mechanics into her dance curriculum. Vanessa has performed with local companies CityDance Ensemble and Jam Crew and currently dances with the DC Contemporary Dance Theater. Vanessa has performed on the stages of Dance Place, the Jack Guidone Theater, and the Kennedy Center. Vanessa has been the Youth Company Director of Dancefusion Jazz Project since its inception in 2000. Vanessa brings her myriad of experiences, cultural influences, and athleticism into her choreography. Her three children can also be found dancing in the studio.
