Students will be making samples of each technique taught to add to their sewing basics notebooks. Just like any industry, there is vocabulary specific to the sewing industry and patterns. Learning proper vocabulary is a must and will be included. Each seminar in this series includes a section on fabric and the student will receive samples or various fabrics or handouts with each session.
It is recommended that you bring a notebook to keep your samples and handouts in. The goal of this seminar is to get one comfortable with sewing basics, to build confidence in one’s sewing endeavors, whether designing with knowledge of construction techniques, or simply comfortable making one’s own clothing, or anything in-between.
What to Bring:
Your sewing machine if you have one. If you do not own a sewing machine and are waiting to purchase one until you have a little more knowledge there will also be a few machines to learn on provided for your use during class, both homeowner and industrial.
DO BRING your manual and thread and bobbins if you bring your own machine. How many sessions for this class:
This seminar is a series of 8 sessions. Each one is independent of the other sessions, each session builds on the previous session, but one is not required to take all sessions. Come for what you want to learn. The goal is to get you comfortable with sewing basics from the ground up so you can be confident in your sewing endeavors, whether designing with a knowledge of construction techniques, or simply comfortable making your own clothes, or anything in between.
