Class Description

Description

Explore the distinctive character of this celebrated aromatic grape variety with roots in French wine country. Sauvignon Blanc presents a remarkable range of flavor profiles across the globe, from approachable poolside wines to intensely herbaceous expressions, lean minerally styles, and succulently sweet renditions. Understanding the factors that create these variations enriches your appreciation of this versatile white wine. The flavor descriptors you'll encounter range from gooseberry and kiwi to more unusual characteristics, reflecting the unique aromatic compounds that make this varietal distinctive among white wines worldwide.

This course examines Sauvignon Blanc's origins in France and the diverse regions where it thrives today, including famous appellations and emerging wine regions. You'll discover how climate, soil composition, and local winemaking traditions shape the character of wines from different locations, creating the wide stylistic spectrum this grape is known for. Through a guided tasting of six to seven carefully selected wines from varying regions and production styles, you'll identify the common characteristics that unite these diverse expressions despite their significant stylistic differences. You'll also learn to recognize regional markers and understand how terroir influences the final product. This class serves as essential education for Sauvignon Blanc enthusiasts and anyone seeking to deepen their wine tasting proficiency, analytical skills, and overall wine knowledge.
