Class Description

Description

Uncover the origins of some of the world's most celebrated and highly prized wines, and learn how the cooler growing climates of northern France shape the distinctive grape varieties and wine styles produced in the region.

France stands as one of the most influential wine-producing countries on the planet. The nation's Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) classification system has served as the foundation for wine labeling regulations throughout the world, and many of France's signature grape varieties are now cultivated in vineyards across every major wine-growing continent.

In this engaging course, you will explore the cool-climate terroirs, signature grapes, and celebrated wine styles of northern France. Our journey will take us through four of the country's most renowned regions: the sparkling vineyards of Champagne, the aromatic whites of Alsace, the diverse appellations of the Loire Valley, and the legendary Pinot Noir and Chardonnay of Burgundy.
