This introductory coding course presents fundamental programming concepts in straightforward, engaging, and interactive formats appropriate for beginners. Through block-based programming, an intuitive visual method where students connect code blocks like puzzle pieces, you'll learn how to issue precise commands to digital characters and construct step-by-step logical sequences that accomplish specific goals and objectives.
Learning Experiences Throughout the Course:
- Understand what coding actually is and discover real-world applications of programming in everyday technology and career fields
- Use visual block coding to manipulate characters on screen and successfully complete various programming challenges
- Watch introductory video lessons that connect coding concepts to practical, relatable situations in daily life
- Practice designing algorithms and developing problem-solving abilities through debugging exercises that teach how to identify and fix coding errors
- Collaborate with classmates in group activities where you collectively guide characters through virtual environments using logical reasoning and sequential instruction
- Engage in structured coding projects with clearly defined goals, allowing you to see concrete results from your programming efforts
Competencies You'll Develop:
Coding strengthens key skills such as perseverance, resilience, logical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. Students will also learn core vocabulary, including algorithm, program, and debugging, and will understand the importance of giving precise instructions and fixing errors when outcomes do not match expectations.
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.
