What you'll learn in this basic chinese mandarin class:

We get it, you don’t know anything more than “nĭ hăo” and “xièxie,” or maybe you’ve taken a decade off. Either way, you’re ready for that all to change by learning Mandarin in Chinese 1. This class is perfect for you if you're completely new to the language and want to get the basics down to start speaking conversational Chinese.

Know before you go
Nothing! Because this course is designed for complete beginners, you’ll be ready to join even if you’ve never spoken a word of Chinese in your life.

The Nitty Gritty
Basics of reading and writing pinyin. Chinese tones and word order. Question formation. Chinese numbers, dates, and times. Measurement and particles.

You’ll be able to
Introduce yourself, talk about your family & what you do in your free time, and make plans.

Nervous? Don't be
From day one, you’ll be engaging in conversation with your instructor and your classmates. This will prepare you to feel confident and comfortable when speaking with natives.

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Refund Policy

Plans change—we totally get it. That’s why you have until 7 days prior to the start date of your class to make any cancelations or same-level transfers. After that, refunds cannot be offered under any circumstance and for transfers, there may be a fee. (Exception: If you’re in an incorrect level placement for a language class, we’ll make sure to get you into the right one).

The cancellation policy for private and makeup lessons is as follows: 24 hour notice is expected for cancellation of any weekday (before 6pm) lessons. Otherwise, you will still be charged. Weeknight (after 6pm) or weekend private or makeup lessons cannot be cancelled.

Will this class prepare me for the HSK level 1 test?

Hi there! The course isn't designed for test preparation -- the goal is for students to be able to use Chinese in real-life situations (traveling for work or leisure, among friends and family, etc) and while the course could be supplementary, the school would recommend you to take another course specifically designed for the HSK test.
