Question from Anonymous
Hello, I'm interested in the course but I mostly produce hip hop/r&b through FL Studio, not Ableton. If I bring my own laptop, will I be able to work from FL Studio? Thx
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! They currently teach music production using Ableton Live in the studio. However, in case you’d like to work on your existing projects from your laptop, yes, they can talk about music production and mixing techniques in general.

Question from Anonymous
Hello, I am interested in learning how to make beats and was wondering if you include FL Studio teachings in this program? If not what program do you use?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! Ableton Live is the main software used in this class. They will add FL Studio and Logic Pro very soon, but as for now, these are not the DAW we use. Students are welcome to bring their own laptop with any software in case they'll like to learn about the essence mixing, beat making, composition, arrangement, harmony and music theory, along with all the topics we cover in the class.

Question from Anonymous
I'd like to set up weekly classes for two sixth grade students. They have been in a three-person band for the past three years - they are the drummer and bassist - in which they wrote their own music, but they had a falling out with the lead singer/guitarist who prefers hard rock and heavy metal. They like more modern music and want to learn how to produce it. Would it be possible to arrange something like this?
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi there! Weekly classes are definitely an option. The school recommends booking the first class for a team of two (under the title 'couples') (https://coursehorse.com/nyc/classes/performing-arts/music/music-production/beat-making---private-lesson-for-couples?schedule=2430225) and following that they can also set up the weekly schedule, with a day and time that'll fit both students. Hope this helps!

Question from Joanne
My son will be 15 in October. Would he be too young to join your class? He would be a complete beginner. What he does have experience with is Piano and Cello and a love of music. He has shown some interest in music making.
Answer from Brenda L. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Joanne! There is no age limit to this class. Students under 16 are welcome if a parent/guardian is present during the lessons/in the house. Beginners are welcome to this private lesson. Hope this helps!

Question from Brenda Q.
I want specific training on Melodyne, I'm sure the teacher is familiar with it or uses it, but I want to make sure he would be able to assist me with this, thank you Brenda
Answer from Yoav S. Verified Educator
Thanks for your question. I don’t teach Melodyne right now, I actually use Cubase’s ‘Vari Audio’ which I find more efficient to my workflow. We can talk on the essence of vocal correction and how to get an industry level vocal tuning using Vari Audio.

Question from darnell
Hey, I'm working in FL studio for my D.A.W. If I take some private lessons with an instructor is it my choice what program we use or do they have a D.A.W program that the use automatically
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Darnell! I think that will not be possible. As for now, the software they use in the classes are: Ableton, Cubase, WaveLab, NI Maschine, and Protools. I hope that helps.

A very informative and super helpful class. In the past year, I started to play around with music software and controllers, and in this class, I feel I learned a lot about mixing and music production in just one session, much more than any other course I've tried before. Also, it helped me set a more clear agenda about how to continue my music education, being mostly self-thought in music. Definitely coming back thank you!
