Maria Perkovic

Maria Perkovic is a LA based photographer from Chicago who explores issues concerning the politics of travel, cultural pluralism and the physical environment. Her work process relies on the ideas and images extracted from tourism, immigration, and collective memories to challenge “placeness” as the prophetic sign of self-formation. Recent projects have taken her to post-war Croatia and Banff, Alberta, Canada to investigate migrating populations and tourist communities.  She received her MFA in Photography from the University of Chicago in 2006 and has exhibited at Roots and Culture, Gallery 400 & Three Walls Gallery in Chicago, and internationally at Other Gallery in Banff, Alberta. She was awarded an Artist-in-Residence grant from the Banff Centre for the Arts in 2009 and will be traveling on assignment to Israel at the end of 2011.
