Introduction to Music Theory
The Vocal Lab and Music School
This class is meant for beginners of music reading and music theory. We will begin with note names and basic notation, and end with triads and chord progressions. This class is well suited for those who want to get an introduction to general music theory to better understand reading sheet music and basic melody writing. At the end of the course, each student will write an 8 bar melody and share it with the class.

The Vocal Performance Class - Musical Theater Emphasis focuses on coaching students in various styles of musical theatre singing each week. Students will learn the basics of picking cuts, building their book, preparing music, self-tapes, owning the audition room, and potential audition scenarios in addition to receiving vocal and performance coaching in a supportive masterclass setting.
Lyric and Songwriting Class
The Vocal Lab and Music School
Students will learn how to brainstorm better song ideas, implement creative ways of expressing them, and understand various song forms and how to best utilize them. Topics explored: word banks, syllabic and melodic phrasing, how to best utilize chord structures and modes, as well as irony and contrast within lyric and songwriting.
