This intensive camp is specifically designed for students preparing to audition for New York City's most selective performing arts high schools, including LaGuardia High School of Music, Art and Technology, the Professional Performing Arts School, Professional Children's School, Repertory High School, Talent Unlimited High School, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, Edward R. Murrow High School, and other competitive performing arts programs.
During this camp, students will work on:
- Material selection, including the preparation of one to two polished monologues
- Exploring The Barrow Group's distinctive acting approach and its core tools
- Audition strategies and professional presentation techniques
- Mock interviews and simulated auditions in a low-pressure, supportive environment
- How to set up, film, and submit a high-quality self-tape
Parent and student meetings are built into the program to answer questions and provide guidance throughout the audition process.
The goal is for every student to leave camp with fully prepared material and the confidence and composure to perform well in both auditions and interviews.
These camps are designed to be taken more than once. Students returning for a second or third time will work on entirely new scenes and be introduced to additional acting tools, making each session a distinct and valuable experience.
In our tween camps, students observe their classmates' work and provide objective feedback based on what shifted after an adjustment was given. Building this observational skill is central to understanding The Barrow Group's approach and is a key part of the learning process.
The Barrow Group:
Our teaching at The Barrow Group is grounded in a specific storytelling philosophy, and students are introduced to the same tools used by our adult professional actors. We believe that to act is to play, and that the most effective learning happens in an atmosphere of relaxed, positive reinforcement.
What distinguishes The Barrow Group School from most other studios in New York City is that every instructor has completed an intensive internal teacher training program. When your child works with one of our teachers, they are working with someone who has trained for years in our specific approach.
