Our Kids Explorations in Film and TV Camp is a dynamic, hands-on introduction to performance specifically designed for the camera. Students discover what makes on-screen acting different from stage work and develop the foundational tools that professional screen actors rely on.
Throughout the week, campers explore ensemble building and collaborative creativity, improvisation, foundational storytelling concepts, on-camera technique, an introduction to The Barrow Group's acting tools, and the creation of storytelling elements, including props, costumes, and set pieces. Students build on these skills through games, exercises, and ensemble work, ultimately helping to create and share original short plays drawn from children's literature or from characters they develop themselves.
This camp teaches our specific approach to storytelling, giving young students access to the same fundamental tools and methods our adult professional actors work with at The Barrow Group. We believe that to act is to play, and that children thrive as performers when they're working in an atmosphere of genuine positive reinforcement.
What distinguishes The Barrow Group from many other NYC studios is our teacher training program. Every instructor who teaches here has trained for years at The Barrow Group in our specific methodology before working with young students.
