Our one-week Children's Acting Camp is an immersive introduction to the world of theatre, designed to help young performers grow in confidence, creativity, and connection. In a nurturing and energizing environment, students explore the fundamental building blocks of the actor's craft through a curriculum that is equal parts challenging and joyful.
Each day of camp builds upon the last, guiding students from foundational exercises in the morning toward collaborative scene work and performance preparation by the end of the week. The week culminates in a showing for friends and family, giving students the meaningful experience of sharing their work with an audience.
The Camp Explores:
- Ensemble building and the skills required to work together as a company of performers
- Improvisation and the art of responding spontaneously and truthfully in the moment
- The foundational elements of storytelling, including how narratives are structured and how actors serve the story
- Scene study and script analysis, with attention to character objectives and relationships
- Introduction to The Barrow Group's distinctive approach to acting, the same tools used by professional adult performers at the school
- Rehearsal techniques and the habits of preparation that professional actors depend on
Students will work in pairs on a scene from a contemporary play, receiving personalized feedback and guidance throughout the week. These camps are intentionally designed to be taken multiple times, as students will work on different scenes and encounter new acting tools each time they attend.
This camp teaches The Barrow Group's specific approach to storytelling and performance, rooted in the belief that acting is fundamentally about play. Students learn most effectively in an atmosphere of relaxed positive reinforcement, and every element of the camp is designed with that in mind.
What sets The Barrow Group School apart from other studios in New York City is that all of our instructors have completed an intensive teacher training program, studying The Barrow Group's specific methodology over the course of years. When your child takes a class with us, they are learning from a teacher with deep, specialized training, not simply someone who has performed professionally.
