Our one-week Tween Cabaret Camp offers students a deeply personal and musically rich performance experience. Rather than working on an assigned script, campers develop an original cabaret by mining their own stories, experiences, or invented characters and choosing music that helps bring those stories to life. The week culminates in a full cabaret performance for friends and family.
Throughout the week, students explore ensemble building, improvisation, script analysis, and The Barrow Group's acting tools. They work closely with a professional musical director and accompanist on one to two songs, developing both their vocal craft and their ability to use music as a storytelling vehicle.
These camps are designed to reward returning attendees. Each session introduces new material and additional acting tools, so students who come back will consistently encounter fresh creative challenges and deepen their craft.
In our tween programs, students are also asked to observe their peers at work and offer structured, objective feedback based on what specifically changed after an instructor adjustment. Developing this observational discipline is central to learning and internalizing The Barrow Group approach.
Our philosophy is simple: to act is to PLAY. Students grow most in an environment of genuine positive reinforcement and mutual creative respect.
What sets The Barrow Group School apart from many other NYC performing arts programs is the depth of our teacher training. Every instructor who works with your child has trained for years at The Barrow Group in our specific approach before leading a class.
