Description
What you'll learn in this african drum class:
In this exploration of African Drumming you will learn to play traditional rhythms from Guinea West Africa, played on the djembe and dundun. Focus will be placed on the three basic sounds and correct playing technique.
Emphasis will be placed on how drumming can benefit us in a multitude of ways, from stress reduction, improved focus, mindfulness, hand-eye coordination, and creating unity within a group. Students will learn the history, cultural significance, and traditions of the music and its people and leave with a solid feeling of rhythms from Guinea, West Africa.
The drums are truly the call to community: They bring people together and energize and inspire us.
Note: Drums are provided.

The class was good but it got away from the instructors. The instructors allowed a group of people to dictated how the schedule was going to go. While the instructors cover some of the basic hand drumming techniques, I felt like they could have cover more about how to play the drum and less about the healing powers of drumming. We lost a good 3 hours talking about healing powers of drumming and how everything is compose of vibrations. A bit disappointed!
