The Carlos Oliveira Soccer Academy (COSA) has been operating in New York City since 1999. Directed by its founder, Mr. Carlos Oliveira a former professional soccer player in Brazil with Santos F.C. and many other clubs, he is also a professional soccer coach now with coaching experiences in Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Bolivia and Finland. The soccer academy utilizes highly trained soccer coaches from Brazil, Latin America and the US who work with children at their developmental level. COSA's programs have grown from a summer camp in Riverside Park to be a year round program operating both indoors and out doors on the Upper West side and Lower East side serving several thousands of kids from ages 2 1/2 to 18 each year. COSA aims to expand its programs and to use its full potential. Besides COSA's winter, spring, fall and summer programs, COSA is expanding into serving the school system by providing the Brazilian soccer system training in New York City schools during recess and after school activities. The After-school program operates within the same structure of the COSA Recess Soccer Program described above. COSA coaches apply the same methodology with the students for one hour and fifteen minutes during the after-school hours. This involves warm-up and skills practice, such as, dribbling, passing and trapping through fun games; play-making and field sense skills. The after school sessions start at school hours within the school premises. However, if the school has limited space, COSA aims to provide transportation to a different location where the classes can take place.
