Class Description

Description

This hands-on course invites students to explore the dynamic intersections between drawing, painting, and printmaking through the lens of mixed media. Students will learn foundational and contemporary techniques while combining materials in unexpected ways. We'll begin with core practices in drawing and painting; line, form, composition, and color. Then expand into layered processes such as monotype, collage, and transfer. Along the way, students will engage with hybrid methods that blur traditional boundaries between media, discovering how materials can talk to each other on the page or surface. This course offers a supportive space to take risks, play with processes, and develop a personal visual language.

Materials:

  • Drawing paper, mixed media paper (various sizes)
  • Graphite pencils
  • Charcoal (vine and/or compressed)
  • Oil Pastels (oil or soft pastels)
  • Ink pens / fine liners
  • watercolors, water soluble pencils/pens/cryons
  • Acrylic paints (optional)
  • Paint brushes (variety of sizes)

School Notes:
Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, while we are a Jewish community center, nothing about our art classes are religious and all are welcome in our building at all times.
