Description

Kawandi is a scrap technique created by the Siddis, African people who were enslaved and brought to India by the Portuguese. They invented this colorful patchwork from scraps sewn to a backing fabric. This fascinating process starts with the outside edges and works in towards the center, with simple running stitches holding it all together. It’s easy, fun, relaxing and totally addictive.

Required Supplies

Fabric backing (lightweight cotton) anything up to 18 x 22” (we’re just making a small one for starters, you can use it as a wall quilt or a placemat.)
Thin batting or flannel - cut slightly smaller than the backing
Cotton scraps, mostly small squares, rectangles or strips
Scissors
Regular sewing thread
Thread : perle cotton size 8 or 12, Aurifil 12, or Sashiko thread
Embroidery needles
Thimble
Pins

School Notes:

Note: Please have a general knowledge of sewing and for classes that include machine sewing, please have experience using a machine.

Refund Policy

We offer store credit to be used toward a future class if notice is given at least 72 hours before the class.

In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
