What you'll learn in this acting class:

This 8-week course, taught by Seth Barrish, applies The Barrow Group techniques to Shakespeare. Here you will learn specific tools that lead to greater understanding of the text and much greater clarity in your performances. The first part of the course will be dedicated to monologue work and the second half will focus on scenes.  Seth’s common sense approach makes Shakespeare surprisingly accessible.

The goal of this course is to help actors become more familiar and comfortable with Shakespearean text. You will begin by using a tool called the “Shakespeare sandwich.” This particular tool will increase understanding of the text thereby improving the actor’s
ability to convey the story well.

Schedule:

Week 1
  • Begin learning and applying the “Shakespeare sandwich”
Week 2 – Week 4
  • Bring in monologues
  • Present your work
  • Receive feedback, apply tools & present again implementing tools
Week 5 – 8
  • Bring in scenes
  • Present your work
  • Receive feedback, apply tools & present again implementing tools
Please Note:
Please have a Shakespeare monologue memorized for the first day of class. Please also bring a copy of Shakespeare’s Complete Works, or the free Shakespeare app that has the text so you can participate fully in the text analysis.

Question from Jack
Hi everyone and anyone... I wanted to reach out with a question. I am not an actor, never have been, nor have I ever taken a class. I'm just a Shakespeare lover and was interested in taking a class on Shakespeare acting just to have fun and learn more about his work. Is this a class for an absolute amateur who just wants to add a little fun into his life? I definitely don't want to take a class where I would be bringing down the other people in the class as they have actual talents. Jack
Answer from Georgia C. CourseHorse StaffCourseHorse Staff
Hi Jack! This class is for actors with previous training and experience. You may want to consider their Beginner Acting Class I: The Basics or keep checking the website for special weekend workshops, as on occasion the school offer workshops that focus on specific plays/authors that you may be interested in.

Thank you Georgia - I appreciate you're letting me know!
