This workshop is for journalists who want to teach on the side or transition to academia. Many journalists see a position at a university as a stable landing spot in this turbulent time of journalism.
Andrew Mendelson, associate dean of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, will give provide you with a better understanding of the mysteries surrounding college teaching, both full-time and part-time.
After this workshop, participants will have a better sense of what a full-time academic job entails and the process for obtaining one.
The workshop will have the following sections:

- The journalist vs. the journalism educator
- The academic hiring calendar
- Part-time vs. full-time
- Tenure-track vs. non-tenure-track
- The academic hiring application, including curriculum vitae (as opposed to a resume), a teaching philosophy and cover letter.
